Welcome bundling of drama classics.
Sony’s PlayStation 3 had plenty of successful exclusives, but any list would be incomplete without mentioning Quantic Dreams’ Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls. Selling 3.07m and 1.75m units respectively on PS3, a remaster for the PS4 was inevitable, and it’s come in the form of a double pack called Heavy Rain and Beyond.
Quantic Dreams have focused solely on the interactive drama genre of video game since their humble beginnings in 1999 with Omikron: The Nomad Soul. Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls are no different, with founder and writer David Cage behind both titles.
In Heavy Rain, you control four separate protagonists, each differing wildly from one another, as you attempt to solve the mystery of the Origami Killer; a serial killer who uses rainfall to drown his victims. Multiple endings and outcomes are possible, including the ability to actually kill the four main characters. It won multiple Game of the Year awards and a film adaptation is currently in progress, showing just how big a success it was.
Beyond Two Souls follows the story of Jodie Holmes and her incorporeal entity companion named Aiden. Portrayed by Ellen Page, Jodie has a psychic link to Aiden and the player can switch between controlling the two. You control Jodie and Aiden between the ages of 7 and 25, with the ultimate goal being to discover what Aiden actually is and why he’s connected to her.
There’s been a digital version of Beyond Two Souls available on the PlayStation Network Store since November 2015 for £24.99 and anyone who has already purchased it will receive Heavy Rain at a discount. The physical pack releases on March 4 for £29.99. Heavy Rain and Beyond Collection (PS4)
